A Rhode Island Wedding and Portrait Photographer. My goal when photographing every wedding is to leave my clients with a full story of their day. All the pretty poses with their families and friends are important, yes, but it’s those in between moments of laughter and excitement for what is, and what is to come that fuels my love for capturing weddings all these years later.
The best part of working with BellaFoto Studios is that your engagement photos are included in all of our wedding packages, for FREE! Living and working in southern RI has allowed me to photograph many our couples at some of the best locations in both Rhode Island and Connecticut. There are a few things to consider when picking out a location:
There’s a couple schools of thought when it comes to either matching the the time of year your wedding is in with your engagement pictures. Some couples love this idea because the photos created can create a cohesive look. For example, say Sally and Jo have a July celebration planned at a waterfront venue. The summer before their wedding date the couple wants to have their engagement session at their favorite beach. Sally and Jo plan to print their favorite engagement photos and put them on display at their wedding venue. It then makes sense to match the overall wedding water theme by scheduling their engagement session around their one year countdown.
On the other hand, Bob and Sue are planning a New Year’s Eve wedding at a posh downtown hotel. They have more flexibility on when to schedule their engagement session because they don’t plan to use their engagement photos as save-the-dates. They also mentioned that they have a sentimental location and prefer to keep their photos private and enjoyed as canvas wraps decorating their living room walls. Because of these factors, they can choose any season for engagement pictures as it won’t need to harmonize with the wedding theme or decor.
One other important factor to consider when scheduling your engagement session is distance. The most practical example applies to our couples who are having a destination wedding but live locally. Although we would LOVE to travel and document their wedding, many resorts require couples to use resort photographers. If you are planning a destination wedding be sure to check with the resort and find out what rules apply.
There are many different options for engagement photo locations. Once you decide when to schedule your session and where you are comfortable driving to, I am more than happy to provide a list of suggestions and even send sample images of the locations. I’ll be making future blog posts about some of my personal favorite spots, so please check back in for an update.
